What will happen to White Flint Mall?

Why was White Flint demolished?
That agreement stated the mall’s owners would maintain the Rockville Pike property as a “first-class” mall until at least 2042. Instead, the owners ended leases with shops inside the mall and later demolished it over the past two years as part of a plan to redevelop the property into a massive mixed-use town center.

After the closure of the main anchors to the mall, Ted Lerner decided to shut the mall down completely. The mall’s doors were sealed shut with cinder blocks, although the Sears store remained open. Demolition began in 2006, and was completed in early 2007. The entire mall was demolished, and its debris was recycled.
