How long is the Hillary Trail?
The Hillary Trail is a a four-day (three night) 75 km trek across rugged country reaching from Titirangi to Muriwai. It is named after the famour kiwi conqueror of Mt Everest, Sir Edmund Hilllary, and was opened on the second anniversary of his death.

What is kauri dieback disease?
Kauri dieback can kill kauri of all ages. It’s a disease caused by a microscopic fungus-like organism, called Phytophthora agathidicida (PA). It lives in the soil and infects kauri roots, damaging the tissues that carry nutrients and water within the tree, effectively starving it to death.
Why is Goldies bush track closed?
Walking tracks at Goldie Bush Scenic Reserve in Auckland have been closed. The Department of Conservation (DOC) announced the closure on March 16 to support of the iwi-imposed rāhui to reduce the spread of kauri dieback in the Waitākere Ranges.
