After canceling their 2020 convention and going virtual in 2021, Anime Expo will return to Los Angeles as a live event in 2022. Following two years of setbacks due to the on-going COVID-19 pandemic, Anime Expo has announced that the convention will return as a live, in-person event in 2022.
Will Anime Expo 2021 happen?
Held annually since 1991, AX now takes place every July 4th weekend and has been in Los Angeles since 2008. Anime Expo Lite’s virtual event dates will be July 3-4, 2021. Content from the event dates plus more will be available to watch on-demand from July 5 through July 16, 2021.

The convention in 2015 remained at the George R. Brown Convention Center and used the first and most of the second floors. Anime Matsuri 2020 was moved from July to August due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and was later canceled after Houston announced the city would be holding no more events in 2020.
